Official Launch of Meteorological Courses for Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau

The Courses on Fundamental Meteorological Analysis and Forecasting starts in Macao recently for  technical officers from Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG). This marks the official commencement of this year’s series of intensive training programs for Macao’s meteorological technical staff.

This year’s training series comprises four courses: Fundamental Meteorological Analysis and Forecasting, Remote Sensing Meteorological (Satellite and Radar) Applications, Surface Meteorological Observation, and Aviation Meteorological Forecasting. NUIST(WMO RTC Nanjing) and SMG have made full preparation in  course design and teaching arrangements. With strong support from relevant schools and the Atmospheric and Environmental Experimental Teaching Centre, NUIST has dispatched a group of outstanding instructors to undertake the teaching tasks. The training series covers the entire spectrum of meteorological operations, from traditional weather chart analysis and surface meteorological observation standards to advanced satellite and radar remote sensing applications, as well as specialized aviation meteorological forecasting and services. The programs are designed to enhance the comprehensive practical skills of technical staff in meteorological monitoring, analysis, forecasting, and specialized services, aligning closely with SMG’s operational capacity-building needs.

Additionally, in response to Macao’s request, one of the courses will be conducted for the first time through a flexible arrangement combining "online synonous teaching" and "online asynonous teaching." This approach maximizes convenience for trainees in balancing their work and study schedules. Leveraging its platform advantages and extensive experience in online asynonous training, the Centre has thoroughly coordinated with Macao counterparts on technical details to ensure effective training outcomes.

Since 2012, the WMO Regional Training Centre has conducted nearly 20 meteorological technical training programs for SMG, training nearly 150 participants.
